Moving to LBI: Everything You Need to Know

Your dream of owning a house at the beach is finally coming true. You have made the decision to spend your summers (or year round) on beautiful Long Beach Island. The time has come to start looking for your dream home and enjoy spending your summer with your toes in the sand and not a worry in the world. Although Long Beach Island is only 18 miles long, the possibilities are endless. We have broken the 6 different municipalities down to try and give you a better feel of LBI and help you find that perfect place to call home!

Barnegat Light

Probably the most iconic town on Long Beach Island because of Old Barney itself. Old Barney is a 217 step, 165ft lighthouse with breathtaking views of the Barnegat Bay. Barnegat light is located at the northernmost tip of the island and boasts some of the widest beaches on Long Beach Island. Some popular destinations include:

  • Barnegat Light Museum

Harvey Cedars

If you’re looking for a more quiet, laid back setting, Harvey Cedars is the place to be.
The town is located on the north end of the Island, coming right after Barnegat Light if you are headed south. Sunset Park is a wonderful place to visit if you are looking for spectacular sunset views and they offer free weekly concerts. Some other popular destinations include:

  • Liquid Bliss Yoga Studio

Surf City

Surf City is centrally located and a very popular spot for weekenders and day-trippers. There is no shortage of boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops and ice cream parlors for your enjoyment. Some popular destinations include:

  • Flamingo Mini Golf

Ship Bottom

Ship bottom is the first town you will meet when coming over the bridge onto the Island. Because of its location, it is also a very popular destination for day-trippers and the rental community. If you’re looking for a place to put your boat or jet ski in the water, Ship Bottom’s boat ramp on 10th street is the perfect place! Below are the fees for use of the boat ramp:
Hours of Operation – 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily
Seasonal – Non-Commercial $70.00
Daily Use – $20.00
Commercial non-motorized fee (paddleboard, kayak, etc.)- $5.00

Long Beach Township

The largest area of Long Beach Island, with many different “sections” including:

  • Holgate

Beach Haven

Beach Haven is located towards the southern end of the Island. The town offers many different things to do no matter what age. Whether you’re in the mood for a day out with the kids or a romantic dinner for two Beach Haven will be sure to please. If you are looking to be in the center of the action here on LBI, Beach Haven is a wonderful choice. Some popular destinations include:

  • Fantasy Island
  • Chicken or the Egg (Chegg)
  • Thundering Surf Water Park
  • Bay Village Shops

Beach Badges are required at both bay and ocean beaches from mid June through Labor Day.

Barnegat Light:
$30- Pre-Season until June 9th
$40- Seasonal beginning June 10th
$22- Weekly
$5- Daily
$12- Seniors 65+

Harvey Cedars
$30- Pre-Season until June 15th
$40- Seasonal beginning June 16th
$20- Weekly
$6- Daily
$9- Seniors 65+

Surf City
$30- Pre-Season until June 15th
$40- Seasonal beginning June 16th
$20- Weekly
$7- Daily
$12- Seniors 65+

Ship Bottom:
$30- Pre-Season until May 31st
$40- Seasonal beginning June 1st
$20- Weekly
$7- Daily
$10- Seniors 65+

Long Beach Township:

Have a four legged friend?

Dogs are not permitted on the beach on LBI between May 1st and October 1st. The rule does not apply to service dogs.

However, there are multiple dog parks on LBI where they are free to play.

  • Bayview Park Dog Park- 6805 Long Beach Boulevard Brant Beach, NJ 08008
  • Dog Park bay Beach- Beach Haven, Behind Fantasy Island at the Bay.
